Question Engine replacement laws?

This may not be the right forum for this and I apoligize, but I would really love to find out this answer.

Does ANYONE know the law regarding swapping engines in Pennsylvania. I would like to know if it is legal to swap say a 1972 engine into a 1980 vehicle. Someone told me this was illegal, but I cannot find anything about it being illegal. I wouldn't see why you couldn't do it as long as you meet the 1980 emission standards.

Any information about this is greatly appreciate.

Engine replacement laws?

You just have to meet the 1980 emissions standard. If you meet federal emissions standard, you will meet state standards.

Engine replacement laws?

I used to live there and was a inspection mechanic I believe this was just how the law was interpretted. The laws were vary vaque with this ,It was also illegal to paint your car a different color than original. I know with the emmission regulations it was that your car should meet the criteria for that year, but I thouhgt anything over 10 years old was exempt from emission testing there. If this is the case who is going to know what engine you have? I wouldn't worry about it.

Engine replacement laws?

Hey Guys! Penns is just like NY. The engine being installed must have been manufactured after the date of the vehicle. So acrd01cas, you are out of luck. All you need is to have the block with the later code. You can add anything to it after that. You still have to meet emmissions standards though.
Like Kevin says, who's going to pull you over to check your engine code and match it with the year of your vehicle?
As long as you can pass the e-check, go for it!

We'll talk with you later

just use the 1980 intake and maybe the heads if they are a totaly different number. Other than that what kind or moron inspector is actually going to do a block check.

Talking Engine replacement laws?

Thanks for the information guys.

I think that I am just going to talk to my mechanic who always inspects my vehicles and see if he has an issue with it. I will more then likely just put in whatever engine year I want and make sure that it can pass emissions standards. Which by the way in Berks county aren't to tough. We don't have emission testing here.
