I believe the starter for my 53 f100 with 215 six is dead, and I am looking around for a replacement. As near as I can tell, the original part number is ***-11001-B. I installed a new 146 teeth ring gear which I got from Mac's Auto Parts last summer. (That was the only ring gear that Mac has listed for the 215.) And ***-1101-B is the only starter in the shop manual for use with the 146 tooth gear. When I do an online search, quite a few starters come up that are supposed to be replacements for my dead one, but none of them actually say that they replace ***-11001-B. And, they say that they are for other model years but not 1953. How can I tell if the part I order is the right one? Are there other starters with other part numbers that'll work? I'm thinking that all I need is a six volt starter with the proper shaft length and all other electrical specifications met, and the casting for a three-bolt mount.
Donyou not have an auto electric shop near you that rebuilds alternators generators, and starters?
I'll look into that. We used to have one about fifteen miles from here. We used to have machine shops and radiator shops, too. But, most of them have disappeared.
