I have an odd issue,
03 7.3L f250
my battery light flickers on and off, I had the alternator tested at a alt rebuild sale place here locally, I dont always trust the auto zone techs, also had the batteries tested at interstate batteries. both batteries good, alternator good.
I think my connector is bad on my alt, not the one that goes to the battery, output is 13.8 to 14.1 btw......there is another connector that is a PITA to get off. I think it is bad, I played with it and applied some dielectric grease had the light go out when I wiggled it.
any suggestions? can just the connector be replaced?
I had the same issue on my 00 and replaced the connector (not smart enough to get from O'Reilly's, I spent $65 at Ford for some dumb reason). Still had same problem after installing. Mine turned out to be the battery wire even though it tested fine. The factory solder had released and the wire was still sitting in the stud. When I grabbed onto it, it came right out of the terminal end. Soldered on a new terminal stud and all is good now 6 months later. I would take a look at that wire connection a little closer as well.
ok will head to o'reily's, cheap and easy. I had to replace a battery cable a few years ago, will give them a good check. Are you referring the wire on the back of the alternator?
I had a similar issue on my '01 and it was not the plug itself, but the clip or connection the plug fit into. The alternator tested fine unless you pushed on he clip/plug. You could see the volts drop. I hope this helps.
