Hey all, I'm working on my crew cab project, and ran into a bit of a snag on the driveline length. Hoping to get some info.
Current driveahaft is a 2 piece out of a 88' standard cab 2x4 with a zf and 7.3, and I want to put it into a 90' crew cab 4x4 with a zf and 7.3, are they the same length, or is the front shaft 1-2in shorter in the crew cab?
Just to be clear, just need the rear driveline measurements, I have a good front driveline.
I'm a little confused, first you start talking about the rear drive driveshaft, then you ask if the front driveshaft is 1-2" shorter, then you say your front driveline is okay?
The rear driveline is a two piece driveline with a carrier bearing in the middle, I'm referring to the front section of the rear driveline that is between the carrier bearing and the transfer case.

I didn't know they used a carrier bearing thus two piece drive shaft in a standard cab ... Always thought they used a one piece with no Carrier Bearing.
But yes, I believe between those two years the two piece drive line with carrier bearing only changed between the carrier bearing and transmission for different engine, transmission, SuperCab and CrewCab configurations ...
I may be incorrect and someone will correct me if I am wrong, then we'll both learn something ...

See, my old man has a 89 crew cab with a 460 zf 4x4, and the driveline looks very similar to my 88 2x4 standard cab with the idi in it, I wouldn't imagine that the 460 Vs the idi would have a different length to them, but when I had his driveline serviced they had to cut 1.5in off of the driveline due to the slip yoke ramming the crud out of it and damaged it. Guess I'll wait for a reply and measure them both tonight too.
Here we are... Driveline out of standard cab 2x4, major difference is there's no slip yoke at the Trans end, I'll need to get one for the transfer case... The front shaft measures 28.5in from center u joint cap to carrier bearing, and 34in from middle u joint to rear u joint.
The crew cab with the 4x4 and 460 measures 25.5in from front u joint to carrier, 51.25in from center u joint to rear u joint.
Guess I'll need to take both to a driveline shop and get some cutting done
