So, out here on our first *real* trip with the 2016 6.7. Have a few issues that have cropped up. The first issue is the DEF. We filled the DEF tank at approx 5000 miles. Sitting in tuscon az right now the truck has 7562 miles on it, it popped up saying 500miles to out of def. Seemed odd but we believed it, pulling the 12,500lb trailer over lots of steep grades. So I went to fill it this AM with a 2.5 gallon jug, the truck took about 1.5 gallons and was overflowing with DEF. Started the truck after that and it still shows 475 miles to idle. Plugged in my OBD2 with torque app and the DEF reading in the PCM shows 0.7gal. How do I fix this/what has broken? Some guys seem to say just drive it, but i have 600 miles to drive tomorrow and will be far away from any ford dealers, so would like to get this fixed now....
Also, Truck got its first oil change last night but now this AM it seems to have the typewritter tick at idle from the drivers side wheel well. Is this still considered normal on the 2016's?
On the def it is common for the truck needs to be driven before it registers. If it does not fix it self in 20 miles I would take it to a dealer.
On the tick, Some report that tick goes away after few hundred miles. I use 15-40 and have never had the tick I tow all the time. Why I ask if your pulling 12.5 k you need to use a 40 weight oil. Ford dealers will use a 30 weight oil which is a problem. I think the tick has something to do with light weight oil.
If it only took 1.5 gallons and is still in count down, get it to the dealer in Tucson before it goes into limp mode and leaves you stranded. Beats being towed back to Tucson.
Mine always did the typewriter tick after getting an oil change at the dealer...did the last oil change myself with Delo 15W 40 and no tick..engine seems smoother as well..
Yep. 5-40 covers every operating condition in the book (except maybe polar regions) so why not run it? The shell T-6 is priced right too and many don't get the tick sound.
