I'm afraid I have a failing alternator on my hands. Some signs exhibited are dimming lights, whenever I hit a bump my ALT light flickers on for a fraction of a second, While driving, my voltmeter reads around 13v, when the car is in neutral it drops down to 12v. It's not a belt issue, considering I just installed a brand new one today.
What do you guys think? Is my alternator going? If so, can you suggest a good replacement?
Sure sounds like it. Btw, put that battery on a charger right away or you may need one of those too, and in turn a defective battery may ruin the new alternator.
Spring for some new starter and battery cables. I would buy a new, versus remanufactured alternator or, rebuild it myself. The auto shop remans are hit and miss. Usually miss.
They don't pay for labor. If they did, they wouldn't be selling defective alternators.
