if you have a buddy whos an electronics engineer and who works with digital systems like that could rig up an lcd display to show you the numbers. the set up might be alittle bulky but if your having to look at the codes that many times it might be worth it. I went to a tech highschool for that kinda stuff but i dought I could do it! lol pretty sad huh. and that code reader is probally not a whole lot more advanced then what could be built!

It would be a fun project though. You'd probably only need a few chips. Let's see....instead of flashing the led you could use that voltage to drive a counter, you'd need a clock to clear the counter every so often; 3 seven segment displays; a 7 segment display driver. I think that's it. Did I miss anything? Seems like you'd need a flip-flop in there somwhere....
Back in the early 80's, Cadillac's had the numeric trouble code display. You have to push a couple of buttons together and the display on the mileage computer would show the actual numbers.
I don't know if I would buy a car that actually had a trouble display center built into the dash. If that was the case, then why don't they just put an LCD screen in the dash, that way it could not only give you the trouble codes in plain english, but it could also show you a picture of the part, and then follow that up with a page or two of R&R procedures.
ON EDIT: If the car came with OnStar, the system could even call out and order your parts.

aegissaloir you read my mind. i was trying to remeber just what you would need but i didnt want to go throwing any thing out and then have it be wrong. its a pretty simple system over all. and it would be a fun project.
I haven't had any problems with the car. Except when the valve broke last year and the alternator went out before that. But I'd say it's about time. It has 340,000 miles on it. That's why I own Honda cars. They last so long. I will always own Ford trucks. I was talking about the blinking light in general. my Dodge Caravan had one too. It wouldn't be that difficult to show text instead.
