It really bothers me when there's two switches on the same light bulb, but in different part of the rooms. When one is in the on position, and the other is in the off, it bothers me. it's okay if they're both in the off, and the light if off, but if the light is on, then one is in the 'on' and one is in the 'off'. The time it drives me the MOST nuts is when the light is off, and they're both in the 'on' position... HUGE pet peeve of mine...
mine too, when I was in college my house had a hidden light switch in the garage, the landlord didn't even know about it. Took the electrician 13 hours to figure out and find the other switch.

Dang. You have had quite a bit of time to think about this, haven't you? I don't think that the switch is 'on' simply because it is 'up.' it is 'on' because it is allowing the flow of electrons through it. Think of it in this way and maybe you'll be able to sleep...
j/k, I honestly didn't think anyone else in the world actually even thought about these things. Nice to know I'm not the only one...
I think it's Code in some parts of the house, particularly the hallway, but mostly for convenience.
But, they are handy - and you're not the only one that's bothered with it. Many people that want one, have to pay $150 or more just for one switch install in an easy-to-get-to area. The thing about those 3ways is that they have to have a three wires and a ground (by code) and some people mess up and draw the power from the light instead of from the switch (which I think is a big mistake.)
My wife hates to have the switchs different positions. Our house has two switchs by the front door and one as you leave the living room. One by the front door controls the outside light and the other controls the wall outlets that have our lamps on them. The one leaving the living room also controls the outlets for our lamps. I will go over and put on switch up and the other down just to bug her. And it works great. I'll hear her yell, "Tom quit playing with the light switchs!" Oh what a fun life we have.

And how are you kin to Hitler, TWolf? You sadistic, cruel, and vicious creature...
Yes, this I know. It's just so easy. In twenty years of mariage, I can still count the number of fights that we have had on one hand. She's an awesome wife. Why she keeps me is just not known. It's like missing the lanudry basket with my dirty underware and she has to pick them up. Someday she will slide them over my head and laugh. But it's all done in love I keep telling her.
