03 6.0 Excursion Delta issues

This all started with changing the Thermostat. It was showing a ECT of 186-188 and when pulling my camper 2 weekends ago the delta was 15-18 with ect temps reaching 232 and EOT temps reaching 240. Fan would kick in at 200 degrees. But temps would not stay down. So I did a flush with restore and replaced my Stant thermostat with a Motorcraft thermostat. After completing the flush I was running a delta of 20 not pulling so I went back and back flushed the oil cooler it has help some but still running 14 delta running empty not pulling anything. A little background I had the oil cooler and egr delete done last Nov. It does run a little cooler when the air off right the Temps are 90- 95 degrees. I put Fleetpride ELC in.
I am at lost thinking about doing another complete flush then a back flush on the oil cooler and installing a coolant filter unless someone has any better ideas? no coolant useage. Could the higher oil temps be cause by using Rotella oil instead of synthetic oil?

Your oil cooler is plugged again. Back flushing is a waste of time and effort and will not undue a clogged cooler.

Flush it with chemicals, change the cooler out and then run ELC. Install a filter if you want but once it's flushed and the system is clean, running ELC is the correct answer, it doesn't contain silica, the stuff that clogs coolers.

Rule of thumb, do all flushing prior to OC change. Doing after almost guarantees another plugged OC. This means a chemical flush, not a water flush.

A delta of 14 would be borderline with the EGR cooler still in place. Since you are deleted, you can get away with a higher delta. As long as your oil temps aren't getting into the upper 240s, i wouldn't worry too much, but would definitely install a coolant filter kit to stop the delta from rising more.

My delta rose from 4-5 to 8-10 within a couple of months, so i intalled a xdp coolant filter kit. My delta hasn't gone up any more since then. I installed the coolant filter a year ago.

Ok guys want to give you an update... I did some more research and ran across something called a delta kit. After reading about it I made my own by tapping into the plate you remove on the oil cooler when back flushing and running a 5/8 hose over to the heater hose below the degas bottle and put a tee in. I Back flushed the Oil cooler with Lime away and emptied the block by removing the block Plugs and flushed with distilled water I filtered the anti freeze that came out with a t shirt to see if any particles was still in there.. there was a tiny bit of junk i mean real small amount. I also installed my coolant filter and put everything back together. I have ran 3 different test on different days with different ambient temps ranging 70 at night and 94 during the day even pulling 2 pretty good size hills empty and my delta never goes over 4. So maybe I caught it before it got bad and I do beleive the " delta kit" made an improvement. as soon as I start slowing down coming to a stop or taking an exit my EOT starts dropping and with in a very short time maybe 30 seconds im down to 3 on my delta. My ECT is running 190-192 my EOT is running 193-196. I am very satisified with that number . So if anyone is having delta issues after replacing cooler or back flushing I reccomend this :

Limeaway back flush cooler after flushing block with distilled water
Delta kit Very easy to do WORTH IT!!
Coolant filter
I will be hooking up the camper next week for the real test.
I am 20k+ lbs with eveybody and the camper loaded.

I'm looking at your original post...
Your saying that ECT was 188 normally and that when pulling it went up to as much as 230 for ETC and EOT was around 240.

Your reference to delta.... is between running empty 188 compared to loaded while pulling at 230°? And that it won't stay down around 188?

OR

That the difference between ECT and EOT is more than 15°?

I'm kind of confused, please clarify your definition of "delta". The test is 15 minutes of level highway, no load or tow after reaching full operating temperature at around 65 mph or 2000 rpm sustained. Then observe the difference between oil and coolant.

Towing has nothing to do with this test. I would expect that when towing, my overall temperatures would be higher, say 210 coolant and 220 oil.... as a base line.

Looking at your first post... you reported that while towing yours were 232 coolant and 240 oil.... that's 8° difference. That's a good number and I would not have flushed with those numbers.

The delta I think you saying is 14-18 between unloaded and towing? And you flushed to correct that?

No what started this sega was my ECT was only running 188 when empty, and when I was pulling ECTwould get 230's which is way to hot and EOT was 240's which again was way too hot, I wasnt climbing a mountain. Little hills and flat ground . I thought bad thermostat. So I replaced with a motorcraft and flushed and that is when my deltas went to 14 - 18 empty normal drviing before the thermostat change the delta was 8. so I back flushed the oil cooler and flused again with restore. still didnt help and thats where my last post picked about the Delta kit.

Do you have pics of the delta kit? I know about taping into the cooler top but wouldnt re routing over to the heater return bypass the cooler?

I cant seem to visualize it.
