The blower mottor on my 95 Explorer does not work sometimes, usually when it is hot and rainy and I need it most. I can hear a faint click at one point when moving the bloower speed button up and down but no air is coming at any position. I suspect that the car has a bad or badly connected blower mottor relay but I can not find the relay. The owner manual point to a location of a engine compartment relay module in the rear passenger side part of the enegine compartment that is supposed to contain the blower motor relay and the blower motor ground (???) but I can not find the module. This relay does not seem to be in the main power box in the engine. The owner manual lists 4-5 more relay modules and points to their locations with arrows pointing to different parts of a small picture of the carar but I dont seem to be able to find any of them. Does anyone know where the blower motor relay is and can point to its location better than the owner's manual does?
I dont have a manual handy to give you the locations, but one thing you can do is wiggle the wire connector right at the motor. These motors have a habit of building high resistance at that connector and you can look into the socket of the motor itself and see melting plastic around the base of one or both of the pins. Sometimes this is the result of a loose fitting pin in the wiring loom end of the connector. If you see the plastic melted replace the motor, and repair or replace the wiring pigtail on the harness end so that it will have a clean tight connection.
Ill see if I can find the manual at work today for relay location if needed.
Thank you for the advice. The connector seems to be fine, clean and with shiny contacts, but the blower motor itself seems to be bad and I am about to replace it. There was power at the connector when the motor was not working and giving it a smack seemed to make it run. I hope that does it; I could not be sure until I put the new one in.
If you find the location of the relay please lrt me know anyway. I had the same problem with the power windows and had the relay replaced by the dealer.
Were you able to locate the Blower Motor Relay and the Blower Motor Ground Relay in the Explorer? I have the 1995 Eddie Bauer Explorer, and am having the same exact issue. The dealer cannot find the relay, I have replaced the blower motor and still get nothing out of it. Aside from doing a full workup on the electrical, I am hoping to have someone pinpoint the set of relays so that I may swap them out.
John.
