Need help please, 1993 4.9- fuel pump runs when key is on then shuts off. Truck will start with a shot of starter fluid (hate to do that) and continue to run. It will even start on it's own if shut off. Let it sit for a day, it will crank but will not start. Where do I begin?
Checked fuel filter. Previous owner had just replaced it. Used a squeeze bottle to put some gas in the throttle body and it started right up. Kept cycling the ignition over a period of 3 hours. It started easily every time without injecting any fuel into the throttle body. Let it set for about 2.5 hours and it would not start.
I've owned this truck for two weeks. Purchased it knowing it had starting issues. Previous owner said he change the fuel pump in the front tank. It has a new distributor, new plug wires, new plugs, new distributor cap. I replaced the head, it was cracked. When it starts I can drive it. It does have a slight miss.
Yeah thought the same thing. Tried to pull the codes this AM. Ran the jumper wire and nothing. Check engine light on stays on constant. Just disconnected the negative lead to try to reset and then try to pull the codes.
With s shot of gas in the TB it runs.
Subford you are correct. Just returned from a trip and pulled the computer. All 3 capacitors are burned. Any thoughts on where to get the best price for one?
No idea, have never bought one except in salvage yards. And then I had to replace the capacitors in it before I could use it.
I pay about $30.00 in salvage yards for them.
Refurbished ECU arrived today. Total install time took about fifteen minutes. Held my breath and turned the key. Started right up. Drove it around the block, no more check engine light. It's got a slight miss so I'll play with the timing tomorrow. Thank you to all of you who took the time to help out.
