Anybody know what all would be involved in swapping from regular ac controls to automatic climate control like the lariats have on a 2015 xlt superduty?
I found info for swapping out manual to auto climate control on a 2011-2012 but nothing on a swapping on my 15' since there is a difference in dashboards between my xlt and a lariat.
Can you post the info you found? I thought about switchingto digital myself (same body truck though). Curious what's involved in your plan though, that'd be cool but I assume not possible due to how the newer style truck are. It's probably all computer controlled etc
I wouldn't consider it an upgrade. Have you used a truck with climate control before? I just got my first lariat and am not happy with the climate control. Reason being I am constantly adjusting it to try to be comfortable, weather using the ac or the heat. Don't know if its just my truck or not but I wish I had regular controls, that I know I can adjust to my liking.

I think it depends on how you are actually adjusting the controls. I know that the climate control in my 06 King Ranch performs differently than my wife's '14 Escape. My wife struggles with setting the climate control too. With the Escape, I set it on Auto and ooccasionally adjust the temperature if I'm too warm or too cold. She switches the blower up and down, but doesn't change the temperature at all. With the KR, I use it all to adjust (blower speed, temperature and vent position) until getting conditions near where I want it. Then I put it on Auto.
My adjustment procedure works well on the Escape, it's so so for the KR in the beginning, but levels out after awhile.

my old 2012 flex had that crap, i HATED auto. never used it, had to manually turn it off every time i got in the car. so annoying.
My dad's Silverado has the auto climate thing. I think it's stupid. It keeps switching around to climate settings that I don't want like recirculating the air when 4 of us adults are stuffed in there traveling across the state. Don't need any of that junk. I much prefer manual controls even on my own vehicles.

I've driven many vehicles with auto temperature control. They have all worked well, except when someone doesn't understand how it operates.
With that being said, GM has a major problem with their current system doing all sorts of weird stuff, but their engineers refuse to admit anything is wrong despite extensive testing using sensors throughout the truck showing A/C kicking on full blast in the dead of winter because the sun comes out of the clouds.
It depends on what year you have but if you can find a recked truck with one just grab all the parts. I did my 00 using parts from a similar year explorer. A bit of wisdom I can pass on is to check the voltage at the compressor when the clutch is locked up. I found out the hard way the EATC I used was only putting out 9v and about a year and a half later the clutch had burned up.
