was running fine until 3 days ago, began stalling,flooding..then quit altogether...will start after much spinning, but floods badly..replaced plugs, cap, and rotor...no change ..was told it could be the module on the dist. but it doesn't have one..WHAT NOW ?
have replaced coil, plugs, rotor, cap. it spins but if it DOES start,it floods badly(black smoke from exhaust, strong smell of gas) it quit suddenly,no warning.has no module on side of dist. all original,no swaps nor changes, just like it left the factory. have removed bat. cable to "reset" computer but no help ! what can be the problem ????
you can check the module by checking for spark at the plugs. Just disconnect a plug wire and connect a spark plug to it or remove one from the block. Ground the plug to the block somewhere and look for spark. Be careful not to touch the plug or wire without something that is insulated from spark. You should see a blue spark. If it is non existent, red, or yellow you may have a problem with the module as well as possibly something else in the ignition part of it.
It could be the fuel pressure regulator. When my regulator went out the truck just died and did not flood. When they go out they usually stop all fuel all together. You can obtain a fuel pressure guage and check the fuel pressure. There is a shrader valve on the right side of the fuel rail (looks like a valve stem from a tire) just press the guage on, turn the key on, and check the pressure. I believe that it should be around 15lbs with engine off.....
