I bought an Early 99

I just bought an E99 F250. I'm sure as I dig into it more I'll have plenty of questions. I noticed that the speedometer to off, due to non-factory tire size I think. I've been reading that you need AE or a hypertech doo-dad to calibrate the speedo. Is that really the only way to do it?

Here's a picture:

They aren't quite the same color. My OBS is the darker, almost maroon, red. I can't remember the name of the color off the top of my head.

Great looking truck! From what I understand there is no other way to adjust the speedo. I just use the one on my nDash to double check. It is off by like 1-2 MPH depending on speed. Tested it with a police radar that was alongside the road

So I've got two issues with this truck so far.
#1 Its got an k&n air filter. Not a big deal I just got to get a 6637 in its place.
#2 Its a small amount leaking transmission fluid from inside the inspection cover. I think the front transmission seal is weeping a little. Should that be replaced right away or can I just keep my eye on it? Its just a very very slow seepage and the trans/TC seem to be operating flawlessly.

Your right ditch the k&n as soon as possible. Mine has been dripping a small amount from the same place for a while. Not bad. Just a little. I personally wouldn't mess with it unless it's causing issues.

OK, I'm starting to get a little buyer's remorse here. The truck ran great when I test drove it. But now when you first start it in the morning it blows quite a bit of blue smoke until it gets warmed up. Didn't do that when I test drove it. And it seems like it just runs a little rough from time to time. I've also noticed when you're driving it hard I hear an air hiss when it shifts gears. It doesn't sound like turbo whistle. And lastly the IVS tab needs bent or something. When you are coasting and then press the pedal just a little bit more it wants to take off, so its a little jerky.

I need to do a little digging and hook up torque pro, but I'm sure I'll have some questions for you all.

And the whooshing noise you are hearing is normal, it is just the boost pressure relieving when the load is reduced. You will really hear it if you install your 6637......

The running rough from time to time could be the need for a fresh oil change. I know my truck runs rough when it time to change the oil. My truck does the blue smoke as well, but I know that I need injectors. Just don't have the money right now. My truck kinda does the tranny things too. I really think you are describing normal characteristics of the 7.3 superdutys. In my opinion that is.

Is that something that needs addressed soon? Or if the turbo shaft play is good, then don't worry about it?

I suppose it could be, but my OBS powerstrokes don't make this particular noise.

So its normal for it to be jerky at like 35 mph? I do need to change the oil and fuel filters. Hopefully the fuel filter isn't black, but I bet it probably is. With 175,000 miles, its probably about due for some fresh injectors.

I had that happen while helping my girlfriends parents move!

I'll bet the reason you don't hear the whooshing on the OBS is because they have different compressor wheels installed from the factory.
