2001 XLT headlights

My truck hasn't even been delivered yet but I've been going over page after page on this forum trying to educate myself. All I seem to be doing is discovering more and more mods I want to do! As stated I have an '01 250 XL. I've discovered this truck has headlights I don't really like. Seems most guys switch to the '05 up headlights. While they look good there seems to be a bit of modification required to make them fit.
My question is, can the '01 XLT lights be easily swapped? If I am correct, they are chrome 1 piece units? My plans are to change to a chrome/grey grill with a chrome bumper also.

Is your truck an xl with the sealed beam lights? If you were going to change the headlights and you don't want to use the 05 and up atleast get the 02 and up lights like these 2002 Ford F250 Super Duty Truck Lighting Kit with (2) Clear Lens Headlights & (2) Parking Lights at 1A Auto.com instead of the 01 and down the lenes on those are lousy.

Exaclty. Mine is an '01 XL and I don't like the lights. So '02 up are the better looking lights. Are these plug and play? I thought the sealed beam were an XL thing and the newer ones like you posted were XLT. Still learning and thanks for the link.

Yea they are for an xlt or lariat the xl would still shave the same lights as yours does. The 02-04 lenes are clear and the 99-01 are textured and have the solid yellow parking light under them. If you google pictures of 99-01 super duties and the 02-04 you'll see what I'm saying.

I did and see the difference and I like the clear lenses much better. So going from a sealed beam to the halogen I'm guessing requires a different plug at the least. Is the rest of the harness the same? For all this I see the advantage of going to the '05 stuff. I want to change the lights, grill and bumper anyway so why not add the header panel to the mix and go all '05? That requires just a plug adapter correct? And is said adapter available from my sealed beams to the '05?

I have a 99 Lariat f250, the one with the lights that turn milky, after only a couple
of months after being polished.

It has the amber parking lights.

Will the 02-04 lights make it better?
If so, which ones from 1A Auto?

The way I understand it is that your truck will currently have and adapter on it that is 9007 to hb4 or something like that is to your sealed beams you just take that off and get the 9007 to 9008 (h13) you will be able to use the 05 lights. When you get your truck I would confirm that though. I would just cut your header panel instead of getting the 05 but it's up to you if you want to do the 05 front end definitely go with 05 lights though.

Yes, use the link I posted above. You may also want to get a package of retaining clips form the auto parts store you probably wont get them all of in reusable condition those things are a Royal PIA.

Thanks a lot for all of this useful info. One more question maybe you can answer. If I decide to stick with the factory grill and bumper will the '05 lights bolt up with only cutting the header? And if I go "05 lights, grill and bumper, again, is the header the only thing to cut? I dont want.to modify fenders or frame etc.

Yes the 05 lights will be just fine with the factory grill and bumper and only cutting the header panel. That's how mine is. As far as I know you will be fine with the with the factory header panel and 05 conversion but I believe you will have to secure the bottom of the grill different but I've never done the full 05 conversion. I think there is a write up on here somewhere about doing the full 05 conversion. Even if you do the full conversion you will not have to modify the frame or fenders, fenders are the same till 08.

Sorry to be such a pain but I'm not having any luck with the search function. Thank you very much and I'll post pics when I get the new lights in.

On my '99, do I have to cut any header?
Are they glass, or plastic?
Do they also cloud over?

My understanding is that you have to cut the header panel on anything '04 and older. I saw pics of it done, even though I can't find them again, but it looked very minimal. And all of the new lenses are plastic and will probably fade over time unless you protect them with something.

To do the 05 headlights yes here's what you need to cut.
