steering part

I have searched the net high and low and I can't find the name of the bolt I need. Anyone have a parts drawing? I need the retaining bolt between the rag joint and the steering box. Kinda like a bicycle seat bolt.

Thanks

do you per chance recall what kind of bolt it was??? Fine or standard thread and length? Thanks that gives me confidence that I may not have to search the junkyards.

Hey dude,
I just went out and checked mine out, its eityher 7/16 or 9/16 (to hard to tell the way it was, but im thinkin probably 7/16)
Its about 2 inches long, and the head of bolt isnt your basic 6 sided one, its like the old LGD beer cans with all the edges.
Hope that helps a bit man.

I believe you are talking about a specialized fastener used for the steering "rag joint". You can cannibalize another rag joint to get one.

I didn't see the part I am talking about...

I believe he is looking for the bolt that goes thru the coupling. You can see the coupling next to your palm.

if it is the bolt i am thinking of it has a flat side on part of it to keep the shaft from spinning freely. motormite or HELP (same company) reproduces those and they are available at most auto parts store's

I did not see the bolt that compresses the coupling on the steering box shaft. I went to NAPA and used a 3/8 fine thread 9/16 head bolt with lock washer. It is working just for now. I will make a trip to the junkyard within the week to get the proper bolt. Bizarre how the other one fell out. But this one got the truck home so I think it is solved for now. Since the carb rebuild the engine is running much better but I have to lower the idle. I will do that later in the week also.

Thank you for everyones interest! It's a great comfort knowing there are others out there that can help at the touch of a keyboard.

It would be the 7/16" (12 point) bolt that that holds the couplng to the shaft ...would it ?

7/16th thread was too big I believe. The one I used was 3/8's. Bolt head is 9/16 and the thread count was 24. I do believe the orginial is a 12 point head.
