hello...i have a 1995 f350 7.3 i just bought and it has a small leak out of the weep hole on the water pump while sitting.while i know this is not normal on a gasser a buddy said it is normal on the 7.3?thoughts?i got a long trip coming up with a heavy toy hauler and am not scared of throwing a few hundred to make sure the system dont fail.
Apparently not. The seal is made into the pump. In order to change it you have to replace the pump. The seal is on the shaft. When it starts to leak coolant starts to drip from the weep hole
Gates makes good belts but belt technology doesn't transfer or apply very well to water pumps. All the Gates branded water pumps that I've seen have been POS Chinese knockoffs. My guess is that by saying seal leakage is normal Gates is just covering up for a low quality pump and avoiding taking responsibility for warranty claims. Just my opinion for what it's worth. For parts that can leave you stranded along side the road I always go with OEM, or IHC in the case of 7.3L water pumps.
i would never buy a water pump from a company that claims seeping from the weep hole is normal.
if it is leaking from the weep hole, the pump seal is leaking and needs to be replaced before it fails completely and leaves you stranded on the side of the road 1000 miles from nowhere.
