My daughter had a '93 f150 that had a hard spot (binding) when turning the wheel. You would turn and then it would bind up and then let go all of a sudden. The bearings were out of it and ruined the shaft. She experienced problems with the cruise not working, The horn honking while turning the wheel, and the turn signals not shutting off after a turn.

We put a used column in it. It has been a few years, but the column was under $50.00 at a local pick-n-pull.

The PSD trucks use the same column as the '92-'93 f150 and bronco (pre air bags). I have seen some with the air bag column used, but they have the clockspring instead of the 3 brush behind the steering wheel and I am unsure of what is needed to use the '94-'96 column.

I had to explain to my daughter that the steering wheel was not a pull handle to help herself into the truck.

It turned out to be broken bearings in the tilt steering area. If you have noise, pay attention to it and replace the bearings before they score up the shaft. Even worse, could seize your steering with disastrous results! And as Kevin, above was saying - the steering wheel should not be a pull handle to get in the truck. And that's a hard habit to break!

Do the turn signals work and shut off after a turn?

Does the horn and cruise control work?

Kevin

My truck is having a similar issue and im experiencing play up and down as well as the usual worn out side to side. Didnt think to check horn but i know turn signals shut off fine. any idea what could be causing this?

I'd guess the 2 bearings in the column are getting worn or maybe completely shot.

This is a good video on this. I just did it.
Note, the bearing relates to the compression sleeve one way only, it says nothing about this in the install directions from Ford. I put my bearing in upside down and the steering wouldn't self center.
