Hello - moving to this thread

Hey folks. As you can see by my signature, I have a brick nose. No, I am not off my meds and lost.....I think this forum may be more in line with what I'm driving, and I may have more to offer here than in the 97-96 forum. My truck was converted to a carb 460 by a previous owner. I have minimal electronics and very little is stock.

Most of the threads in the 87-96 forum seem to involve checking MAF sensors, running OBDII, and other non-mechanical that no longer applies to my rig. Long story long, I'll be around here, trolling if you need me!

Thanks! I like this group already. I pulled my engine the other day to try and get some long-time issues resolved. I'll have to start a little project thread soon.

Welcome! We have a couple of other '87 owners on here and we help them so I'm confident we can/will help you. And, because of those two, Jim and Brandon, I've usually included 1987 info on my web site.

The '87 460 is quite the middle child - glad I found you guys! I'll give your website a look Gary. Thanks for the info.

If you find that I did cut off the info you need at '86 just send me a PM and I'll see what I can do.

Neat site Gary. Love the name Garagemahal. After looking at your flywheel part numbers, it looks like there are a few options for the 460 flywheel (11" or 12" clutch.) Most info floating around this site and others indicates that from 1979-1997, the same flywheel was used on all 460's. My problem is that I have no idea what year my engine is so I am having trouble pinpointing the correct part. My VIN isn't any help since the truck was originally a 5.8 - any suggestions?

Thanks.

I don't know much about 460's. I see on the other thread that you've had good response, and those guys know much more about the big-block than I do. But, have you checked the casting number on the block?

Another brick in the bullnose section, I don't post as much in this section but the information is still very relevant to our trucks and the folks are friendly and knowledgeable!
I love bullnose trucks and I used to have an 86.

I assume the zf 5 was swapped in, or was it an option in 87?

It was originally an automatic with a 351. The 460 has EFI front dress and the ZF-5 is of 1988 vintage. I like the vibes of this thread a bit better than the OBS section - more mechanical, less electrical.

I know, reading all those threads about electrical problems and efi problems it makes me happy to have a carbureted all manual truck haha
