Hey all, I need some help. I have a 2012 super duty with a 6.2 in it. I bought it last winter and noticed no air getting to the defrost vents. Now in the heat, sometimes when I turn the air on, all I get is super hot air like the heater. Sometimes playing a bit with the ***** helps but not always. Sound familiar to any one?
Not sure if like earlier years, but if you have a vacuum leak, for example, the 4wd actuator lines, that will affect other vacuum driven processes, including duct vent operation.
Do you have dual zone or single standard HVAC controls?
Does the auto ESOF 4WD work?
Ill take a shot that the blend door actuator is bad or there is a leak in the ESOF system, typically down at the front axle vac line connectors. Though a vac leak in the ESOF system typically forces the HVAC to default mode, which is defroster air only(hot or cold). Id lean more toward the blend door actuator(or actuators for dual zone HVAC). A typical faulty blend door actuator will not hold the temp setting. It will wander around to hot or to cold.
Explain with more detail or does this sum up the problem?
ESOF=Electronic Shift On the Fly.
HVAC= Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning
Standard vs Dual Zone= Standard, one temp control no digital temp read-out.
Dual Zone.,.. just that, two temp control ***** or zones with digital read-out..

This truck is two wheel drive. I do sometimes hear a very faint whistle while at cruising speeds. It is not constant. The temp also holds true once it works. Sometimes it works great and other times I mess with the controls and it will get cool. This is also not duL climate.
Still believe the blend door actuator is your problem. I did a write up in the Tech folder here on how to do it in an 08. Not sure if the procedure applies to the 12? Your not gona like the cost at a stealership as they want to disassemble the entire dash...or rather charge you that flat rate and do the short-cut way and charge you the other rate. Thats why I do my own work. $1000+ verses $30 and 2 hrs of my time. Large difference!

I believe you are right. I need to look on you tube and see how this is done. Shame on the dealers. I still need to take it there and have a my key issue resolved. Thank you

You were right. Had them look at it. Found no obvious problem so they said dash needs to come out. 12 hour estimate. NO THANKS I will do it myself.
I did a write up here for an 08 standard HVAC system. Its in the "sticky" tech folder. Kind of hard to find so Ill copy the link for you.
May apply, may not, but it should guide you enough. The air bag is a safety issue so play safely around it. Its critical to get it powered back up...for passenger safety. Having correct tools and mechanical dexterity is a must as well.
You can request an exploded view from your stealership. If its a good one they will help you. Parts dept should have the same exploded view too.
