I think my glow plug controller is bad on my 1984 6.9L IDI and I was wondering if anyone has installed this and how hard it is to install I found the one for the 6.9L on sale for half the price of a normal controller and if it will work I would like to use it so I can have money to fix everything else that seems to be breaking
That is a 7.3 style controller. It is designed to work with the 6v bullet connector glow plugs. You would need to update the whole glow plug system for it to function as stock. While it is better than the 6.9 controller, it isn't going to save you money. But first things first... test your glow plugs, relay, and controller instead of just throwing parts at it. The test method can be found in the very last post of the 6.9 Glow Plug thread. If your controller is bad, consider wiring it to a manual push button/momentary switch if money is tight.

It's not a 7.3 version they make a 6.9 version for it and is cheaper than the 7.3 one and I don't want a push buttons for the glow plugs... Right now it has a mind of its own some days it will start and others it won't but normally it won't start

Okay, I think that is just a representative picture. You choose from the drop down menu 83-86 or 87-94 or Powerstroke. They only show one picture though. Call them and ask if the 83-86 controller threads into the water jacket on the cylinder head. It probably does.
Edit: I would still test yours first. OEM is going to be better quality than Diesel Rx, and typically when 6.9 controllers fail, they fail in the "on" position and fry all the GP's. Intermittent hard starting sounds more like air intrusion, not a bad controller.
