Any tips for headliner install?
Okay I've moved on to the next job on my 68 reassembly. I have a headliner I took out of my parts 72 bump. It has tiny pin holes all over. Tonight I cleaned it and spray painted it satin black. Got the chrome all shined up and ready to go. The front mounting holes in the headliner are open slots. I wonder if I can put the front trim on loose an slide the front of the headliner into it?
ps when I'm done I'm doing a massive pic heavy project thread.

I took a headliner from a '69 F100 wrecking yard donor and installed it in my '69 F100 --without any help, since rarily do I ever have any help when I'm working on my truck.
I lifted the headliner into place and started installing the trim, starting with the front pieces and working my way to the back pieces. Being a '69, my truck has the smaller trim pieces at back corners (6-piece headliner trim compared to 4 for the later model Bumps).
After I got the 4 major front and rear trim pieces loosely installed (didn't run the trim screws all the way up) I installed the two corner pieces at the rear. With the headliner in place and the trim screws not run up tight, I positioned the headliner where the screw in the center (that goes up into the ceiling) lined up with the hole and tightened it up. After that, I went around to all the trim screws and tightened them up.

installed
There are two open edge holes on the front edge of the headliner and there are two wafer headed screws. Run the screws in most of the way and slide the front onto them. Run the wafer screws up but leave just loose enough to allow some movement of the headliner. Start the center screw but use a big washer temporarily to take some stress off the cardboard. Install the trim in the following order: rear pass side, rear ds, front ps, front ds, then the two small corner pcs. Don't tighten the screws until it's all up.
