Well put. Obviously you have encountered owners. And as far as the insurance. It's a small price to pay for what could happen very accidently. I never minded paying for security. The nice part about collector car insurance you can go for a ride 9 months out of the year here in WI and never have to call and have collision added on. I don't drive the Shelby but I do drive the '64.5 frequently.
I have not had any dealings with Shelby's - can you get factory replacement parts still - or are they replica parts?
Another way you might want to have your insurance written is by having it insured for the actual value of the vehicle. I have my X written this way, so if something happens, I lay all my receipts on the table and they have to pay me for the actual value I have in the vehicle (minus maintenance costs).
no question be listed as a ford, few cars including the ruf porsche will be listed under a different name. It comes down to the chassis, thats the basic change from stock to change the registration name, if the chassis remains the same then the product and the model name will remain the same on the registration, and listing! no doubt in my mind that the shelby mustang will be listed under ford. unless you are looking for the shelby 427, 289 or any of the other shelby's made with the ford engines. ya'll should read up on the shelby's before you post cause a lot of you are giving wrong info, just a sugestion?

a $6,000 shelby 65-66
1 it's a clone in rough shape
2 the guy selling thinks it's a clone (that how my buddy got his, paid 12 worth 35-40)
3 real and very rough
shelbys are titled as mustang GTs
look for tubeler traction bars on top of the rear springs.
look for a set of holes about an inch above the uper control arm bolts on the shock towers
the tag on the iner fender that says GT350 (or GT500) (not mustang) and a ser. # like this SFM-###
