Need Engine Advice

hello, I am new to the forum.

I am currently in the process of restoring a 49 ford F-1. My question is, where can I buy an 8RT crate engine with the transmission?

If that is no longer possible then my next question is, will 8RT heads work on the BA block? I am worried it will create to high of a compression.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum!

8RT heads will LOWER the compression slightly when used with an 8BA block. They also don't flow quite as well, but for a street engine the difference is negligible.

You can buy a rebuilt 8RT from many sources, check eBay and your local Craigslist. Internally there are very few differences between an 8BA and an 8RT. The cam may be different, the intake manifold may be different in very subtle ways, and in later years there were differences in whether you got hardened valve seats. The oil pan and oil pump pickup tube are also different between them, but ALL parts interchange completely.

i have checked ebay and craigslist and haven't found anything. Are the shops out there that specialize in rebuilding flatheads that I can contact directly?

Most people have their existing engine rebuilt. Is yours not a candidate? I know several shops in my area that can build to order if you can't find one locally, and there are plenty to chose from in the West.

You can add your location to your Profile so it shows up in your posts. It would help in a situation like this, where your location affects where you could reasonably get parts. Go to UserCP in the upper left corner of the page.

Just a matter of choice, nothing wrong with either I prefer the EAB the last ones.
I know a guy 10 min away with a 1990's new complete crate French 239 on the shipping palet. He wants $1500 I'll get his phone no if you are interested. I'll get a picture of it. sam

he said it's never been run

Look up H & H Flatheads on the internet, they will build you what ever you need from stock to a wild flathead.

Hey Bluedog,
Welcome aboard! So.... you can't leave us waiting in suspense..
must post some pics of your '49 when you get a chance. Does it
currently have an engine in it? Running?

Have fun over there in Washington.. Enjoy the journey..
