f100 wheels

ok, question. I have found various aftermarket 17in wheels that i would to put on my 73 f100. they are all 8in wide and have min pos offset to counter the -5mm stock ones and they are 5x5.5 pattern. why are the fitment charts saying they wont fit my application? does anyone know a reason why nothing will fit but every 67-79 i see has after market wheels. it sucks that **** is only made for chevy crap. ford has been the number one truck since trucks were invented.

Same problem with Mirrors

If I were you I would check and see if the rims you are looking at would fit a F150. I base this on a set of sideview mirrors I bought today, the site said the mirrors would not fit my 73 f100 but they would fit my 73 f150. I bought the mirrors based on the fact all the sheet metal is the same for the f100 thru the f250,
just a thought

That's ridiculous! Where in the hell do people come up with this crap info? And it gets worse, because...

There were no F150's until 1975!

could be that they are for a dodge that shares the 5x5.5 pattern

Check out this site. I'm getting 20" wheels for my 1976 F-100 4x4 that I've lifted 4". They have wheels of all sizes but you also need the bolt pattern which is 5x139:

American Truxx Armor AT155 20x9 Wheels Chrome 5x5.5 (5x139.7) -12 | AT155-20927C-12

5 lug wheels on a 5.50" bolt circle: 1940/48 Passenger Cars; 1948/52 F1; 1953/79 F100; 1966/96 Bronco; 1969/74 E200; 1975/96 F150; 1975/2014 E100/150; some 1980/83 F100.

Some 1980/83 F100's have 5 lug wheels on a 4.50" bolt circle.

F150's went to metric wheel in 1997, but no Econoline of any year has metric wheels.

And I just forgot the .7
So 5x5.5 is correct but there is also a bolt pattern of (5x139.7) that maybe differs depending the year. I assume that this is what differs between manufacturers.

The site was ebay, and when I put in my truck specs 1973 Ford F100 the told me the mirrors off a 1979 f250 were not compatible with my truck but when I changed the specs to reflect f150 it would work.

Because of this site and some knowledge I have gained from my brother, I knew if they came off a 79 f250 they would fit my truck so just on a whim I changed the specs when they said they would not fit my f100... I also knew that the F150 did not come out until a later year, and if I am correct it was something to due with the emissions laws being passed.

Most ebay sellers haven't a single clue what parts fit, even if they're NOS with a Ford part number marked on the package.

One idiot listed a NOS C6TZ-18813-A radio antenna, said it fit 1966 F100's.

BS! It fits 1966/77 Bronco's! 1961/66 F100/1100's use C3AZ-18813-C (replaced C1AZ-18813-A) radio antenna, also fits 1961/64 Galaxie.

First off sorry I hi-jacked this thread.

One last question, which may be stupid but what the hell, the mirrors I am waiting for are supposed to be FoMoCo which I assume is Ford Motor Company, when I get the Mirrors, "73-79 Ford Truck Fold Away Mirrors" how can I verify that they are Ford mirrors.

After reading enough post on this site I know you are the one to ask, ok enough sucking up.

Thank You

What was the Ford part number listed for the mirrors you bought?
I assume you're speaking of TYPE 9 .. Low Mount Swing-Lok Mirror. There are FOUR different types. The mirror head was also available by itself, but there were two different sizes for 1973/77 vs 1978/79.

The type introduced in 1973 has a different span between the brackets than another type that was introduced in 1976. One type introduced in 1978 does not use a rubber gasket between the glass and the mirror head.

This and the other type introduced in 1978 have larger mirror heads (6" x 9") than the 1973/77 mirrors (5 1/4" x 8 1/4").

Upper pic: Different types of mirrors for 1973/79 F100/350 & TYPES 10 thru 13 for F500's. Also used on F600/880, but listed in a different catalog.

1978/79 Bronco's used the same mirrors as 1973/79 F100/350, but are listed in the 1973/79 Ford car parts catalog.

Lower pic: Caption should read 1973/ F100/350 & 1975/ Econoline.

Notice the round device between the upper arm and bracket. This allows the mirror to lock (Swing-Lok) in place if pushed forward or pulled backwards, then placed in the original position.

Aftermarket (auto parts store) mirrors don't have it.

It's been a long time since I looked at these mirrors in person, so I don't recall if the mirror heads are marked Ford or FoMoCo (both inside an oval). The brackets are not marked.

FTE member mikeo0o0o0 has a 1973, so he might know. He also has the 1973/79 Ford 100/500 (light truck) & 1973/79 Ford Passenger Car Parts Catalogs on C/D's.

5 or 7 x 139mm are the F150 metric wheels introduced in 1997.

You've been a member since 9/2014, so you shoulda come here FIRST and asked for NOS

There are 9 TYPE 9 D6TZ-17696-A available NOS .. 2 at obsolete parts vendors, 7 at Ford dealers.

Last MSRP each: $58.33 / Dealer net cost: $35.00.

They've been obsolete for sooo long, that the dealers can no longer return them to Ford for credit, so they are STUCK with them.

One of the dealers (has 1) is located in Greenfield PA .. Pennsylvania is in-famous for being the 'road cone' capital of North America!

btw: I didn't look for the 1978/79 mirrors, but there may be some of these available NOS
