SCT gives you more options with custom tuning. Not sure why you'd get anything else, the SCT hardware is just a platform to push the code in with. The code is the important part, and there are a half-dozen plus custom tune writers that have good histories with the 6.0L.
Innovative can apparently write custom tunes for certain Bully Dog tuners, but Gearhead, Quicktricks, KEM, River City, and Truck Source all for sure write for the SCT and have good histories.
I don't want a tuner that has gauges though because I don't want my tuner to grow legs and walk away with my original flash in it, so the extra expense for something like a Bully Dog GT over a used SCT X3 or SF3 isn't worth it to me.
That would explain the sudden ability of some tune writers to write for the Bully Dog GT I guess. Any idea if any BD tuners before the GT will be able to be updated to take the new tune files you can get for the GT? Or just the new model?

I don't know, Bryan. I've been out of the tuning "game" for quite a while. I'll try to make some inquiries though.
The transmission killers where always the shift on the fly boxes, like the Edge Juice with Attitude. Bully Dog had several boxes I think, Banks had the 6 Gun, those where the ones with problems. New Edge boxes don't have the problems, there's just no one who can tune for them anymore since PHP stopped the Gryphon.

With both being the same company now it offers the advantage of having the same quality of tune from an SCT on the Bully Dog units. The GT Platinum will accept custom tuning, and the other prior models will not. In all likelihood with a new model coming out (the BDX), the old models will most likely not be updated.
