Missing Fuel...
If the front gets too low will it automatically draw from the rear, or do I have some sort of crossflow problem? I reailze there was a recall for fuel being pumped back into the wrong tank, but so far I haven't seen any spillage yet. I checked with the local dealer, and there is no record of it being in for the recall, and said unless it leaks out the caps it will probably cost me.
By the way, I seem to only get about 10 mpg city, and 15.7 highway.
Thanks for any help.
Eric.
If they want to see gas coming out of the cap before they'll fix it, fill both of them TO THE TOP and select the front tank. If the rear doesn't overflow within ~50 miles, refill them both (noting exactly how much each needs) and drive on the REAR this time. If they still don't overflow, refill them again and post the results.
The tanks don't automatically switch, and the '90-up fuel pumps are MUCH more reliable than the older ones, so do that test to find out exactly what's happening.
Drove 89.3 miles, on the front tank only, and I managed to put in 6.523 gallons in the front tank, and 1.286 gallons in the rear tank! That's a whopping 11.44 mpg with about 50% highway miles. I did switch over to the rear tank just long enough for a fuel level reading a couple of days ago, but would that account for the 1.3 gallons missing from the rear tank? I'll now switch over to the rear tank and go for a week with both tanks filled and see what comes up.
Thanks for any ideas,
Eric.
