Fuel or electrical (or other?) problems?

I have a 1986 swb, 302 v8, granny low 4spd, I was having problems with the battery going dead, thought it was ignition switch on bottom of column so I replaced it, the old one fell apart the little bearing ball inside the switch fell out. Still drained the battery. When I put the new battery back in put ground cable first, then touched positive cable to positive post and it sparked slightly and realized that the fuel pump on frame right below drive door was running. Key laying on seat, key switch in off position, transmission in neutral. Removed positive cable pump quite running. Truck will crank and run like it should no problems. When I shut truck off, everything shuts off and I don't here the pump running. Go out next day battery completely dead. Everything that could draw electrical power is in off position. I've read several places that the symptoms truck has fit the ecm or fuel pump relay. What could be causing the draw on the battery and making it go dead?

Welcome to FTE, Randall.

It's a bad idea to hijack somebody else's thread here, so I extracted your post and created your own thread with it; feel free to edit the Subject as you see fit.

Hook a testlight up like the diagram shows below, and if it glows bright you do have a drain. Pull the alternator wires off and see if it goes out.

I would also change your fuel pump relay, sounds like it is sticking.
