Hey guys I got the numbers off my rear end. It's a dana 60. What do the numbers mean on the top right of the diff? They are C30255.
Also the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) on the frame at the front engine cross member is CV56135, does that make sense? No, because this isn't a VIN
What year is the truck, what series? Your "About Me" profile says 1956 F100 and it would have come w/a Spicer(Dana) 44 rear axle originally.
The VIN does not contain any axle or trans info for any year FoMoCo vehicle. Only the axle ratio is stamped on the Rating Plate of these trucks.
Spicer(Dana) 60 introduced in 1954 F250, but these trucks thru 1955 were also available with the Timken A150 rear axle.
The title says 56 f250 but can't find any other numbers on the frame. I think it might be a 55 cause of the front shock mount looks like it's a 55. But the rear end is 8 lug and it looks like the driver side rear brake drum looks differ t from the left one. The right one looks like it has a lip on it... will try and get pictures tomorrow
30255 is just a casting number they all have, along with a "60" on the lower right side. Information on the ratio would have been on a tag connected on the left side, but these are usually lost. Axles from the mid 1960's and later had a bunch of numbers stamped on the back of the passenger side axle tube. One is the BOM number that will tell you the year, ratio, etc. if you look it up online. The BOM on my '71 rear end is 603195-5, for example. A web search with that number and "Dana 60" turned up a bunch of info. Good luck.
