As the title states I'm stranded with my daughter on the road. My truck just died with no warning. I have fuel pressure and oil is full and I believe my injectors are not fireing. I have my AE hooked up and I am getting P1298 Injector Driver Module Failure. Is there a fuse that powers the injector driver module? Is there anything other than a bad injector driver module that could cause this? I have a Swamps Diesel moded injector driver module installed. Could it have failed? Any quick help would be appreciated as I'm stuck on the road. Thank You!!
Check the 42 pin connector that jump the valve cover on the driver side. I had issues with mine. It chafed and killed my alternator circuit. Other than that I'm not sure... Good luck!
My 2000 owners manual says that fuse 30 in the passenger cab panel is a 30A IDM relay fuse and relay #32 under the hood is IDM relay. Could try swapping it with another.
Update. I got a ride home and went back with my spair IDM. I installed it and the truck started right up. I let it sit and idol for about 15 minutes and then headed home. I didn't get two blocks and it died again and would not restart. I checked it with my AE and now getting P1283 and p1280 and p0340. I swapped in a spair cam position sensor and it still wouldn't start. I took the handle of a screwdriver and hit the icp and ipr and the two sensors on the HPOP resivuar and it started right up and I was able to drive it home with it running perfect like always. What is/was actually wrong I have no idea at this point. Thank You.
Maybe ice down the IPR next time it quits and see if it starts back up right away? Also check the 42 pin harness across the left valve cover for shorting out
Thanks for all of the ideas. I did check the 42 pin connector where it passes over the valve cover and all looks good there. I also tried unplugging the ICP and no change. I will be trying my Swamps IDM again to find out for sure if there really is a problem with it or not. My IPR is a genuine Ford IPR that I installed myself that now only has aprox 80k miles on it and the tin nut is tight. I really need to get this figured out because I need the truck Father's Day weekend to go camping with my daughter.
It's a sorry statement of the world nowadays, but the fact is, Parts out of the box, or in service 2 years are not guaranteed to function just when you need them. That's why we try not to use anything short of OEM on our replacement parts. You know....S*#& happens. But does sound like you knocked something free when you applied some "hammer therapy".....and since your IPR has the only mechanical parts of the 3 you rapped on....There's your Sign.
