A guy from south africa wanted me to accept his overpayment of Black money(untaxed income), so that he doesn't have to pay taxes in S Africa (for my 65 Mustang & for shipping the car to him)
I talked an FBI friend of mine and he says the State dept has thousands of complaints of Foreign buyers from Africa scamming businesses and sell it yourselfers. They cannot help you once you lost your money...up your own creek. Seller beware in this case, if it is too good to be true, then it is a FAKE!
This scam can also happen to folks dealing with US buyers. A friend accepted an offer for his classic Lincoln and was asked to accept a check that was well in excess of the value of the car. The excess, along with the car, was to be returned to the buyer.
The bank determined that the check was a forgery and refused the transaction. My friend ended up in hot water with the bank for trying to cash the rubber check.
Seller beware.
