Hi guys,
New to this forum, just added a 65 250 Camper Special to the garage, to keep my 60 f-100 company.
I need tires on the 65. Of course what's on it are not what belongs on it. The truck is in such original condition I'd like to know what size/width was on it orginally?
Also it appears that the 8 bolt lug wheels were black with a ring of red trim painted around perimeter
Can anyone help me with the color of the rims and the size of the tires?
My plans at this moment are to drive and enjoy it whil tackling little projects along the way, unlike the 60 which is in hundreds of pieces in the garage.
Well Brian, I cant help you with the info you requested, but I wanted to say "Welcome to FTE". This will move your post back to the top and maybe we'll get an answer. Personally I'd buy a set of radials that fit those rims. Take a chip of paint off the rims to any body that sells paint and they can get the color for you.
F250 Camper Special could've come w/ 8.00 to 9.00 x16.5 - 8 lug depending on axles & GVW rating it was spec'd with. Trailer Special F250s = single wheel, medium duty F350 for all intents & purposes.
Early 16.5s were "split Rim" w/ a lock ring retention system. A VERY DANGEROUS SET UP! ! The Good news is Ford Made 16.5 rims which are 1 pc & don't use lock rings. They're called Safety Rims.
I've only seen them in argent. I've never seen them Black or w/ accent stripes etc. as OEM. FBp
Brian - If your '65 was originally equipped like my '66, and I'm guessing it was, your truck would have had 7.50 x 16 tube-type tires on 5.5" wide split rims. If you get junkyard 16x6 Ford wheels and 7.50x16 radials things will be about the same as they were. Personally, I don't think the splits are that dangerous, but tire shop employees do and many of them will refuse to work on them.
I can't help with the paint scheme. The only stock '65 I know of has black wheels with a white rim.
