So my Ac is not blowing cold at all. I can hear the compressor cycling. I filled the sys with freon. Still not cold I am pretty sure I have a leak but wouldn't it still blow cold? What do I need to check to fix this? The temps are getting in the upper 90's and 100 s I need Ac bad
A set of refrigerant gauges is the only way to test. Never use any refrigerant
that has a leak fix in it.
Right now I don't have access to the correct workshop manuals for your year.
I can post the 2005 stuff later if you want. But you really need the correct tools
to even diagnose this.
Don't forget that this is general info from the 2005 Workshop Manuals.
As soon as I have a working computer I can create the correct year PDFs.
But a lot of the info is the same year to year with small changes.
So when the compressor is cycling the gauge that came with the 134 is jumping up to almost 100 then it drops to almost nothing then it jumps up and repeat
You need to pull a vacuum on the system and let it set for about 30 minutes to see if there is a leak. If not, recharge the system. When the compressor is cycling, that means you have a low suction pressure and air is in the system. Adding freon will not make it cooler. If it happened all of a sudden, you have a leak. If it did this over a period of time, it is typical of ford AC systems. I have to have my X recharged about every 4 years.

At rest the system should be around 40 lbs. both hi and lo side. Your not getting the whole pic with your current gauge. It'll be cheaper in the long run to pay a pro rather than damage something. A slugged compressor will cost you big time.
So I have some readings from the a/c gauge with the clutch spinning the low is 22 with the clutch stopped the low is 49 the high side with the clutch spinning is 120 with it not doing it is about half way between 50 and 100 also the little tube that goes from behind the grill and into the little black box behind the round thing the low pressure port gets very cold but I can feel cold air leaking out of the spot the tube goes into. Also the fan clutch starts and stops about every few seconds is this normal?
So your saying more Freon? What should my gauge be reading so I know I have the right amount of freon? Also what about the evaporator leaking
The amount of freon is dependent on ambient temp.and humidity. There are charts for this. The only way to do it by amount is to vacuum the system and then add the amount on your vehicle specifications.
If we really want to do this right.
The term Freon is a Brans name and not all the same.
Refrigerant or R number is the only way to really know
what your working with.
Mike is correct. Save yourself some big $$$$ and
just have someone diagnose it for you.
Too much refrigerant and you can kill a compressor.
Refrigerant added the wrong way and you can kill a compressor.
Not enough of the correct oil during a repair and you kill a compressor.
The same for many other steps. Too much or the right stuff or too little
and even the wrong stuff and you can do some heavy damage.
This all works out to a lot of money that you did not need to spend
or more that you would of spent having a person trained in AC work
do it in the first place.
