T-10 and Top-Loader are two different 4-speed manual transmissions. --there was also a Top-Loader 3-spd. manual transmission.
The T-10 has a bolt-on side cover that also houses the levers for the shift forks.
The Top-Loader 4-spd. (which is a Tremec T-170) is a stronger transmission since the only purpose of the stamped steel top cover is to keep the gear oil contained and is how the transmission internals are installed/removed --thus were it got the name "Top-Loader." The shift levers on the side of the Top-Loader transmission stick out through the cast iron case housing. --much stronger design than the T-10.
I did the swap to the T-10 years ago. The clutch and pressure plate were OK. The bell housing had bosses cast in it for the narrower T-10 bolt pattern so I just drilled and tapped them.
The output yoke spline is the same, but the drive shaft had to be shortened.( the T-10 I used came from a '64 Galaxie 500 so others may have a shorter tail shaft)
The rear transmission mount and cross member for the 3-spd fit the T-10 as well.
I had to rig a micro switch and mount to have the back up lights work.
The only problem I had was the ratio difference. The 3-spd probably has a 3.40 first gear and the 4-spd is around 2.84 or 2.88 i can't remember. I dropped the rear diff from the 3.50 to a 4.10 soon after the swap.
I am doing a restoration on the truck and I am building the motor and stroking it to a 347and will be pushing between 475 and 500 hp and if possible I would like to keep the stock set up

Technically, that's not a restoration.
A torquey engine should be the goal.. that's what gets it off the line. HP is more about high RPM use and these rigs are as aerodynamic of not just the barn door but the entire barn.

Most guys wish to get close to those big HP numbers from an Fe block that never get their. Those are some big HP from a SBF number to get unless a little laughing juice is used.
Hey guys thanks for the info I have another question I know that my 302 was ext.balanced at 28oz and 50oz and that the 28oz was early years model but what was the beginning year and the year it changed to50oz
