My truck is a '99 F250 SD CC 4x4 5.4L 410 gear. Last month I got 15 mpg on a 200 mile road trip at 70 mph. Since then I removed the fiberglass bed cover. I have made two similar road trips without the bed cover at the same speed and got 13 mpg. Is the bed cover related to the mpg? Or is something else causing the drop in mpg? God Bless, huckster
Huckster, MPG is dependant on a lot of factors. Yes to some degree its possible the cover can help because it then adds to the areodynamics of the truck. You could try to drop the tail gate to see if it helps the MPG.
My 99' F150 got a constant 13 at 70+ freeway, but once it got below 60 it jumped to 15+. FULLY loaded bed and canopy, work truck situation, 5.4L Automatic.
Play with it a little, slow down just a little for the trip and take note. Add the canopy again and take note, etc. That would give you a good base line to work with.
