I believe you can because the guy that sold me my '87 pulled my instrument cluster w/tach and swapped it w/his cluster that didn't have a tach. I guess all the hook ups are there, it just depends on which cluster was installed. Not sure of the work involved but it seems like it would be pretty easy. Hope this helps.

The gas is going down the big 5.8L gullet. And the fact when you step on the gas "it really goes" for a 5,000 pound SUV. I'm lucky to get 10MPG on a good drive. The 3-speed C6 doesn't help though.

A tach won't tell you much - install a vacuum gauge. THAT shows where the gas goes. The higher you keep the vacuum, the less gas you're burning.

Great idea. I just went through the whole vacuum tree and with a vacuum pump checked all the parts. The cruise control was leaking, the power brake booster for some weird reason would not hold above 15, so maybe a big leak there, and some interior vacuum control was leaking. D'oh! My vacuum gauge showed about 20 at idle. What does yours read?

18-22 is normal - mine was idling when I took that picture, which shows about 21".
