So far I have Baby swamps, ts6, e fuel, intake, exhaust, ww2, intercooler and an Adrenaline. I pulled my 32' 5th wheel with another trailer behind it with the Ranger, quad and dirtbike. Approx 15k. Truck pulled it with ease but when taking off I was having quite a bit of smoke. I'm debating either d66 or just a 1.0 housing to boost quicker and clean it up. At what point do I need to do headstuds?
I've looked into a S369 SXE FMW ***Fixed*** kit, but I don't want to spend $2500 on it at the moment. Some day I will but just not yet.
Do not go to a 1.0 for towing unless you have the headroom for EGT up top.
What if you were able to do it for about 1400 then would it be worth it? a late model 366 can be had brand new for less than 600$
The D66 is a waste of money period. save a bit longer and a good jump is the 38r if you want a drop in turbo, however they are a one time use turbo, not rebuildable.
Why are you thinking head studs? If you are pushing north of 35 psi or staying near 3 grand for prolonged periods of time at 35+ psi then studs, springs, and pushrods are a must before you float a valve or pop a gasket.
Tuning will likely be your best solution. If you are that smoky are your EGTs in check?? Do you have a pyro in there? I'd guess a stock turbo pushing baby swamps in a tow tune be hot pulling that train over any decent long period of grade. If not then tony has your tuning about as good as it can get. He knows his stuff!
I wasn't sure at what point these trucks needed studs. I'd be interested for $1400. I never saw my egt above 1000.
Well tony hit a home run on the tuning if that pyro is in the manifold and you are only seeing 1000 degrees, pyro in manifold? Might just have to live with the smoke.
Mind me asking what your boost is in full tilt boogie up a pass with the train behind you?
Probe is in the banks down pipe. It never went above 900 just guesstimating from what I've read that it should be about 100 deg higher than the manifold. I never got above 18psi but I kept it around 70 and took it easy

Ok for starters get a second probe and put it in your manifold before spending pennies on anything else, or move your current one there. 100 is not correct IMO, I have one in both manifolds, cruising its 100-125, towing on a stock tune its 200, really pulling a pass it can be 200-450 difference depending the tune. It's a bit eye opening!!!! It's crazy how many dealers and fleet truck service companies for big rigs think it's ok to put one in the DP, let alone our little tricks.
18 psi in a stock tune or a tow tune or a higher one? 18 sounds about right for those sticks in a stock tune. Should be mid twenties on a mild tow tune.
