Does anyone recognize this Excursion? Looking for previous owner..
New here, and with my new to me Excursion..
Looking to see if anyone knows this truck.
I bought it off a guy in Wappengerfalls, NY a few weeks ago.
He had grabbed it of eBay, the truck is originally a Massachusetts vehicle..
Has some minor issues and needs a good tune.
Has, what seems to be a F-150 Harley Davidson edition stock supercharger dropped on.
Who ever did the work knew what they were doing.
Me, not so much... My first supercharger set up..
Anyway, lookin to go over it and make it run right..
Probably going to see if any of the F150 guys could help, figured I'd start here..
Funny you mentioned them.. Guy I bought truck from said he had gotten a lot of calls to buy just the rims..
What's the problem with it exactly? If it just needs a dyno tune you can always take it to Mustang Magic in LI, or RealSpeed. By the houses in the backdrop I am just going to assume you're in NYC lol.
Looking at the pics its got an EGR delete at least. Any codes? If you're not seeing an EGR error code, the truck more than likely already has an aftermarket tune on it to kill the EGR system.
Nice looking truck btw, welcome aboard!

Yeah man, thanks ..
Yes 5.4 - my guess is they dropped the charger in.
It's got headers, EGR delete, cat was moved behind downstream 02 sensor which was hooked up to an air fuel ratio gauge that doesn't work.
Service light is not on but there appears to be one wire pulled from the OBD2 connector - local guy used a snap on reader got done incomplete readings and a alarm fault.
Yes - located in Bensonhurst Brooklyn, was thinking about Ralph & Johns but thinking I'll come out to the island.
The truck runs and drives good but feels very sluggish.. Lacking the power that you'd think it would have. The shift points are all over the place she's searching at 40 to 50 mph for a gear. Won't kick down when trying to accelerate unless she's kinda forced to WOT.. Should have more pep of the line, feels like it's starting in 2nd gear - that might be due the shift tube assembly being shot, replacing that today.
I don't know if the trans is supposed to have a TV/Kickdown cable .. None present .
Supercharger doesn't seem to be blown sounds good..
Could very well be trans is going bad..
It is slightly leaking from the rear, not sure exactly from where..
I'll give one of your recommendations s call.. Thanks!!
Not looking to make it a beast, it does have 130 on the clock. Just want it to run as it should..
Looks like you might have upgraded injectors as well, maybe. You mentioned leaking from the rear - rear of motor or rear end?

Forgot about Ralph & Johns, but I dunno if they tune on the newer stuff as much, back in the day they used to have trouble tuning 94-95 5.0 Mustangs from what I've heard lol.
I changed my mind about a tuner specialist. Go to these guys, they're a ride from Brooklyn but they know Lightnings like the back of their hand supposedly. Might even be able to get them to remote tune it or something.

OBD2 check incomplete is probably a P1000 code which is common, not sure on the alarm stuff but it won't be pertinent to your driveability issues I don't think.
If the trans is leaking it might just be a bad front seal blowing ATF on the back of the trans but the fact that its shifting funny might mean other issues as well. I also don't believe the 4R100 should have a kickdown cable, its all done electronically on these rigs.
I know Bensonhurst well, I grew up in Bay Ridge hah.

If it's leaking from the read of trans (assuming here), first things first - check the fluid level and ensure its full. Low fluid levels can alter characteristics of the trans.
Regarding the trans, the 4R100 doesn't hit O/D until around 47mph, but the slip engagement range is between 45 and 50mph. Some good tuning can set you up properly and help get the shifts firmed up a bit and feeling more firm and definitive. 5Star is highly recommended by a lot of the gasser crowd in here and on FTE in general, but they aren't a local shop to you - if you want local, I leave you to other capable members' recommendations local to your area
. You can also toss in a valvebody upgrade from John Woods or do some upgrading yourself using the TransGo Tugger HD2 kit (my personal recommendation). The 4R is an electronic control, no kick down/TV cable to adjust nor worry about. Not sure what you're referring to with the shift tube assembly...?
Keep in mind even though it's supercharged, you're still trying to get over 7500lbs moving with an engine that prefers higher RPM operation. Without gears or a stall converter, you're not really going to be launching with any authority. My 7.3 is pretty far from stock and unless I boost launch at 4-6psi it doesn't really get moving until things get spun up.

That supercharger is gonna be a little different than a turbo charger. He is making boost all the time as that SC is run off a belt that is being turned by the engine. A turbo has lag as it takes times/RPMs for that turbo to spool up as it is driven by exhaust.
Some 4.10's or 4.30's even would really help wake it up, especially with it being a 5.4.
You really want to use a tuner who is used to tuning the Gen 2 L's. Sure, someone can argue it's all a matter of reading code, altering fueling tables and percentages, and timing, and trans oil pressure etc etc, but it takes a knack to tune the L's.
Check out LightningRodder.com and see who the top 5 tuners are now, do your research and choose.
I would think JDM is still considered one of the top 5, albeit probably still expensive, but check into Woodbine Motorsports too. I dunno if Johnny Lightning (JLP) is still tuning but I know his rep was taking a hit 10 years ago when I fell away from the L crowd and got into the smokers.

I don't really have much else to add to the conversation, most of the people here know more then I do about the Ex. But it does sound like a tuning/transmission issue to me. I think even with a supercharged 5.4, it's still going to be sluggish off the line, remember, the Ex is heavy.
