Hey guys! I have a 1989 Ford F-150 XLT Lariat Longbed Pick-Up Truck with the Fuel-Injected 5.8 351 Windsor. It has an aftermarket alternator on there and it has gone bad. Whenever I had gone to the auto parts store, before I could order a new alternator I needed to know which position the alternator plug is suppose to be at for my truck. There is a 2:00 position and a 10:00 position. I want to make sure I get the proper alternator. The old alternator that came off of the truck had a 2:00 position, but I don't know if it is the proper one. I don't know if they made a certain alternator for a Bronco and one for an F-150? Please let me know guys so I know which alternator I need to get. Thanks!
Yeah, but the way the wiring ran to the alternator was all bunched up. I didn't know if it was suppose to be a 10:00, or a 2:00. They are obviously two different positions. I just didn't know if for a reason.
Have you considered doing a 3g swap? Im not sure if you have the old external regulator that can be a wiring nightmare or the 2g that has the restangular plug that is prone to catching on fire, but the newer 3g is a huge upgrade.
I've got a '91 F-150 Lariat, and none of the alternators for the 1991 model at any parts store looked anything like the original. One of my aircraft mechanic buddies finally told me to ask the parts store for an alternator for a '95 F-150. I thought he was crazy, but sure enough it was a perfect fit. Don't know if that helps at all
Go to a junkyard and pull a 3G from a Taurus. It'll be cheaper than a "new" one from a parts store, and won't light on fire like a replacement 2G still will. Clocking one hardly takes any time.
