What is the switch called that is located on the brake pedal itself? I tried to look it up at Napa, but all that came up was a parking brake pedal switch. Is this an easy change? It is on a 96 F350.
I believe that switch is bad. Everytime I hit the brake pedal the cruise won't kick off unless I stand on the brakes. The display screen on my brake controller box is no longer lighting up either, but it will if you hit the manual over ride slide bar on the controller. My abs light is also blinking 16 times as well.
Sounds like it is either bad, misadjusted, or the fuse is blown. Do your four way flashers work? If not, I'd look at replacing the fuse: If so, I'd say to swap out the switch. (The four way flashers share the fuse with the brake light circuit. A common problem there is an abraded wire in the steering column to the turn signal switch creating an intermittent short, and popping the fuse) An additional check to see if the switch is operating is to put the four ways on, press the brake, and see if the four ways hold their flashing- The brake light switch will override the four ways by providing power to the lamps at the same time, so it appears the four ways freeze in a lit position for t he duration of the brake application.
I put the new switch on in the Napa parking lot. Now my Cruise will disengage when tapping the brakes. ABS light appears to of stopped flashing. I blew the high pressure power steering line when I pulled into Napa to pick up my switch. I changed that in the parking lot as well. Back on the road to Seattle
Apparently that didn't help as much as I thought. Now when I hit the brakes the brake light and abs light come on and stay on until the truck is shut off....
When the brake light and abs light come on at the same time it means most of the time that you are low on brake fluid or you have a bad switch on the side of the master cylinder.
