Made some good progress over last few weeks and now have the frame down on its wheels!! Scotts IRS front end and welder series triangulated 4 link out back with front/rear sway bars. Rear 4 link has frame rails boxed and additional boxing to be done later.
Hopefully this weekend I will get the engine/AOD positioned and mounts done.
Progress is a good thing...
Got the engine block/trans installed today. Pretty happy with the layout. Need a rear sump kit for the 351W but clearance looks good.
With the trans crossmember in I can get the cab back on tomorrow and start the body build up ready to start the bodywork, what fun....
With the AOD and Explorer 8.8 rear can someone suggest a driveshaft I should go look for so I can get it modified to suit?
Thanks.
I am actually using a drive shaft out of a ford superduty, but my truck is kinda long and needed a carrier bearing. You should be able to use a mustang shaft, maybe a crown Victoria or even a 80/90's ford F-series pickup. Measure your distance and start climbing under cars or trucks
Looks like your front horns are chopped off like mine were when I got it and had to add bumper mounts.
Sure looks like the tailshaft is a lot higher than my 302 with C4 but I will check tonight.

Finally tonight after multiple install/remove cycles I have the front end somewhere near where I want it to be. Five of the seven panels (not counting the hood) that make up the fenders and grill are in place. The inner fenders were original, pretty beat up and stuffed with holes!! Now they are smoothed out, cut away around the A arms and primed.
The overall aim is to bond all of the panels together, smooth out all the joins. Once bonded I'll lift the whole clip off for paint prep and painting. I probably need to remove and do some fine fettling once more before that final fit up. Sounds like a plan....
Looking great..... Did you ever decide on a driveshaft? I had a shop here in town build and balance me one. I could never find one that would fit the length I needed.
Not yet Mike, just actually thinking about that today on the drive to work!! I need to see if there is a local shop who can build/modify one for me or I guess I'll just have to order online.
