Engine rebuild coming along nicely; stabbed a rebuilt dizzy in this morning and have spent 2 hours messing with the seating. I can hit my pre re-build position on the dizzy body and rotor pretty easily buy I cant seem to get it to sit down low enough to get the shaft gasket into the manifold, see pic.(rotor does not spin freely by hand in this position so it feels engaged.
I tried both the original and the rebuilt dizzy and both seem to only drop in the same amount(not enough)
I've convinced my self that I do not have it seated properly.
Also convince myself to walk away before things go worse.
Am I right or wrong??
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks

It's not seated all the way... I suggest rotating the crank ever so slightly while applying a slight downward force on the dizzy to get the cam gear and dizzy gear to fully mesh.
See of if that works.. otherwise, it might be an oil pump drive issue.
Looks like the front cover might not be sealed up yet. If so, you can peek at the spot where the distributor connects with the oil pump drive shaft. Try HIO's suggestion first, though.
It's the oil pump driveshaft like mentioned. Seems like they lean back in the hole a little and it's nothing but problems. You can trying turning it back and forth it might do it. Now that you walked away for awhile it might drop right in! I had that happen once or twice its always a good feeling but till then.....
HIO's suggestion worked, I rotated the crank a bit while pushing down on the dizzy and it seated that last 1/4 inch or so.
Should be finishing off my rebuild tomorrow morning and hopefully hit the key for a start around noon........
Thanks to all for their help and guidance.
