cleaning agents

well i am a big fan of using starting fluid to final clean my metal parts before reassembly. i believe to a certain extent that it soaks into the pores of the metal and pulls out any residual oils and dries very fast. i did it on my fuel bowl and now the o rings where the plastic rod turns for the drain valve leak air while blowing just with human pressure. it was out for other reasons and i had already ordered a kit but it was a learning experience. a drop of oil does stop the leak for a minute.
