C-6 transmission shift kit

I'm investigating having a shift kit put into the C-6 transmission in my 4X4 truck. I'm not interested in racing performance but just shifts that are more crisp and the ability to hold 1st gear for light off-road use.

I see B&M and Transgo kits in catalogs and on-line, but the descriptions for the Transgo kits seem more aimed at high performance applications. Does anyone have experience with either the B&M or Transgo reprogrammer kits that can tell me if they fit my needs as stated above.

I definitely want to avoid anything that would give really harsh shifts, as the wife rides with me sometimes and would not be pleased with neck-snapping shifts.

All input appreciated.

I have used B&M shift kits in numerous vehicles over the years and unless you are running a high HP engine with a holeshot converter, then it will be far from
"neck snapping" shift points, if noticeable at all in the passenger compartment.

I have used both and TransGo is the only way to go (in my honest opinion).

The B&M kits ONLY works on the upshifts. And I believe there's different levels in the kit you can tune it to.

The TransGo kits not only make shifts faster and firmer, they also focus on the downshifts too. They also fix other valve body related problems with in the kit.

Right now, I have a C-6 in a truck with a TransGo kit and the shifts are really smooth and fast. When you really get on it, they get pretty firm.

I have an AOD in another truck with a TransGo kit and it's pretty much the same as the C-6, except you can really feel the focus on the downshifts. There are a couple of different "tunes" you can do and I think I picked the better one with stock rpms. The Transgo kit is a LOT more involved, so be very careful and follow the instructions.

Both trannies shift faster than stock and smooth, not neck-snapping at all. It's when you really crank on them they shift really fast and harder.

There's a reason that the B&M is called a "shift kit" and the TransGo is called a "programmer".

Most shift kits I have installed had 3 different settings you could pick from.
The lowest one was just a little above stock at shifting.
The highest one was more for racing with hard shifts, again I would not call them neck snapping but not really for street.
Then you have one in the middle and would say is used the most.

I think I have the B&M one in my 75 v8 Gremlin and want to say I have the middle one. When in drive and you drive like a little old person it shifts like a factory 998.
The more gas you give it the harder it shifts to the point if you have it on the floor for the 1-2 shift it will chirp the tires and that is with a locker & 2.89 gear.

Transgo all the way. The instructions are even entertaining. Reprogramming kits are usually more race related. Shift kits are usually more mild. Just about all of them have different options in them. They will say add this spring for WOT shifts only and so on and so on.
