A HAZARDous question...
I recently bought a 1988 F-150 4x4 Lariat and am having some difficulty with the hazard lights. The rear hazards are constantly on (flashing), except when the brakes are applied. I checked the fuse box, and of course the relay for the hazards was not there. I've checked various sources (AutoZone, local Ford dealership) and no one can give me a part number for the flasher.
I tried to put the turn signal relay in its place, but the socket for the prongs seems to be larger, so that won't work.
Also, having replaced the starter, solenoid, and ignition switch, I've noticed that there has been some amateur re-wiring done previously.
Can anyone help with the part number or have any suggestions?
Thanks...
I think there were a few trucks built with the turn signal flasher out in the dash to make it more audible, but the hazard flasher is ALWAYS on that fuse block.
But that won't keep them flashing - your problem is in the hazard switch, which is built into the turn signal switch in the top of the steering column. It's a dealer-only part, so shop the junkyards if you're feeling lucky, but I recommend spending the ~$120 to get a new one.
