My EGR Valve is shot and snd its leaking and I don't want to pay to replace it yet. Can I just plug it up and drive around. I've already passed emissions and am good for 2 years. Would it affect anything if I just plug the Old EGR and drive around in the mean time????
Nope, shoundn't hurt a thing. I just had the vaccum line to mine plugged up because the EVR soleniod was stuck open. My idle was cr***y, now its smooth as silk. some say your engine will run a little hotter, but I have not noticed it on mine.
just make shure you take care of all leaks, my make your comptur think there is a problem but you should be able to drive it just fine, on the older motor i used to swap out the EGR manifolds for there predisesors, but of course they wern't comp. controlled. DW
I was just gonna stick a screw in a piece of vacuum line and stick it on the nipple. But I just got a new EGR for $60 and I might as well pop it on....
Since the parts shop sold me the wrong EGR Valve then told me the right one costs $100, I decided to Just Plug the old one up. I filled the holes on the Valve with Cilicone and put a piece of cut tin between the Manifold and the valve with the gasket to make sure no air leaks through. The truck is so far running just fine and no such problems as overheating or smoke...
Did it improve your idle and starting? I've a similar issue with mine ('85 351w ho) and I don't have or need the emissions stuff. Mine egr just has the nipple open in the air. I've posted a new thread on this but no one's replied to it.
My idle has actiually decreased now. The last guy had tuned the carb withe the bad EGR that acted like a vacuum leak. Now that it is plugged the idlw has dropped. I'm taking it to my mechanic this week to have him tune my carb with a computer. The starting hasen't really improved, but that also could be due to the really low idle. The idle and carb will be set this week and I'll update then. You can post later on the week to remind me to let you know about the results....
