So I was just told by my other half that I don't know what I'm talking about. Perhaps I will need to eat some humble pie here but going on what I *think* I read on here previously.
For those that don't change their own oil do you take it to the Ford dealership or somewhere else? Do you use Ford OEM parts or something else?
Do you change every 5000 miles or less if you don't drive that in 6 months?
I change every 3,000 miles or 3 months, whichever comes first, I use the regular stuff, not full synthetic. But NYC driving is hard on most vehicles, with all the stop and go. On my Toyota Sequoia I change every 5,000 and use full synthetic. It's overall in much better shape then the Ex and has much less miles. And it's the family car so I try to keep it up a little better. But the Ex is the work truck and already has 212k miles so I just go with the regular stuff.
Find a coupon and use the quick lane at a dealership, i think their people have a higher skill set than rapid or elsewhere. I change my own oil, but my wife goes to the dealership with her escape.
I only use AMSOIL products since 50,000 miles. Getting ready to turn 380,000. I change oil every 10K miles with an oil analysis. Each analysis states I should go an additional 5-7500 miles between changes. Yes it is more expensive but it is a better oil with longer intervals so it is a wash in my mind
Todays oils can easily go to 5k miles, the 3k 3 month is old school/thinking...I've had mine checked at blackstone and at 4-5k the rotella synthetic is still in great shape.
Todays oils don't go bad. Change it when you hit the mileage unless it gets contaminated with fuel / coolant. If you have any doubts, just send a sample to Blackstone Labs or other ail analyzer. $35 analysis and peace of mind is definitely cheaper than a complete oil change
I disagree with My buddy Curt, the diesel holds much more oil than the gasser therefore 5k intervals are fine...
Your V10 only holds like 5 quarts. I highly recommend OEM filter and I used the motorcraft synthetic Blend ( cheap stuff). I ran 228k miles before I sold her with a very quiet engine and no problems at all.
My local dealer would charge me $29.00 regular price and $19.95 when occasional coupons were available.
The most I would go is 3,000 miles. In my opinion this is soooo cheap to do its not worth doing anywhere but at dealer and with oem parts. Just my .02
Don't forget to wish Stewart a happy birthday today and everyday until the 29th

Thanks, that's what I thought I heard here.

I had mine analyzed at around 5K a few years ago and it said I was good to go for a while yet on the oil. I normally use whatever brand synthetic wally world has a deal on aside from Mobil 1. It likes to drink that for some weird reason. Not so much with Quaker State or Valvoline synthetics. I'll let it go for a year if I only put 5K on it that season. One caveat, it gets parked from November to April.
