So... driver side bed trim fell off while driving. And someone picked it up. Passenger side was about to fall off (hanging by metal clip).
The door and fender trim has studs so it's supported so much better than the bed side. I just want to avoid the clips. Has anyone found a better way to fasten these pieces of trim?
Bright side of this is that I have 2 more pieces of trim from my other bed
Maybe we're thinking off different things? On the other pieces of there are studs on the trim(not studs on metal clips) and a nut on the inside of the body. I don't believe the bed side has that? Just all plastic and metal clips.
Sounds like you want to ditch the plastic piece LMC pt # 40-1653 that slips on the rivet head and has the top and bottom even thinner plastic tab that can break so easily, and go with the metal/stud LMC pt # 40-1654 set up mount piece in their place? I believe the metal slide in place from the opening slit/notch on the end?
Make sure the trim itself is not bent to far open, edge to edge. Get some JY door and fender mount tabs with studs and retrofit them to mount the bed trim in more places. Or just ditch the trim all together and paint the "dent" silver and then add a black strip down the middle of it.
That is my plan anyway, if I ever get the body work on ol silver done. Just paint a brushed alum/bright silver stripe in the dent with a black strip down that.
Drill a hole and pop rivet that piece. I mean hell, you rattle-canned the truck in the first place. Not trying to be a smart *** here. Just giving you another option.

I could also just duct tape it on. I did not rattle can it. The method I used is far from rattle canning it. And anyone that thinks otherwise just has not done the research. Not trying to be a smart ***. What you said just isn't accurate.

Thanks.
My apologize if I offended you. Trust me, I like your truck. I thought that you said in another post that you used Rustoleum to paint it. Which makes me think rattle-can. No hard feelings.

Thank you for your apology. I did use Rustoleum, mixed with mineral spirits. Not rattle canned on. It's for sure a cheap paint job. But definitely not the quality of rattle can. Finished my project yesterday. Here she is.
So how did the trim metal brackets with the studs work out X5?
Ordered 10 of them on JBG. Should be here next week. Pretty confident they'll stay on though. Going to fasten them on the trim first. Make sure they're really really on there. Then drill holes and tighten it on with that nut. I'll let ya know how it comes out. Thanks for the help
