2012 Super Duty 6.2L intro and build...

Hi all... Just picked up a '12 Super Dooty 6.2L XL. Been lurking around for a while and was undecided of what I wanted til I seen this one. Was going to go old school (70's) but realized I wanted a few minor conveniences like power windows, cruise an AC... And besides, the new trucks are soooo purty. A bit about me, From South of Buffalo. Ford man my whole life. built many cars, trucks and a bronco... Not a pro but no stranger to the wrenches. Anyway, I know you all Love pics so Ladies and Gentlemen... Meet Sampson!

It's an XL With the "budget" FX4 package ($29 Stickers). I usually do my own stunts but he had just put a 3" lift and the tires and rims on it. Truck was originally a southern PA truck and is Very Very clean!!! I just couldn't say no... Not too happy about the Mileage - 110K but oh well. Plan on doing a few basic things Exhaust, grill, nerfs, flares... not much in the way of major modifications ...yet!.... Will be doing EXTENSIVE rust-proofing to it and will document it here. Plan on keeping it for quite a while.

Where it counts....

Thanks guys! My first super duty and honestly it's more than I need but oh well. Like I said mostly cosmetic modifications for now but we'll see how that changes later.

Very nice looking truck and that thing is so clean(especially underneath)that it could pass as a new truck. I think that thing would look really good if the outer grill surround was painted white and the center bars were left black, or paint the bumpers black.

Don't worry about the mileage, that engine is just broken in. IMO the 6.2 is the best engine in Ford's lineup.

Nice truck. I love that is has no "grampa chrome". As said the white grill with black bars will look great. Keep the bumpers white.

You know I looked at that hours thing and I think it said 10000 total 8000 idling or something like that... I gotta re-check it. It's currently still at the dealer, he's fixing a few things for me. The guy I bought it from is an amazingly nice guy! Matt from southerndieseltruck.com out of Oswego ny.... This guy Definitely is building a great business for himself.

Anyway, is lots of idle time bad? or one way or the other??

Thanks for the Vote of confidence on the 6.2, I know nothing of these motors nor have I ever been inside a modular motor yet.

I don't think idling is a big issue with fuel injected gas motors ?

Great looking truck! What tire size is that? And do you know which 3" lift he did?

Heh. I resemble that remark.

OP I would double check those hours, but 8000idle hours and 10000 total. I wouldn't think that's the best for a gas motor or otherwise. That's a lot of hours.

I agree, recheck those hours because 10000 total hours on a truck with 110000 miles figures out to 11 mph. That means the truck spent most of it's life sitting.

Worst case you got an exceptionally clean truck that would be worth dropping a new motor in, should it not survive as long as you want it to.

Ok, First weekend with the big guy… Yes, that’s the hours… unfortunately. Fortunately it runs like a beast!

Few things I noticed… (I know I’m whining)

First an foremost… I need mudflaps! This thing picks up every rock and piece of road grit I pass! The sides of this thing are going to look like they got shot with birdshot if I don’t! Any recommendations for some that don’t look too gaudy?

Next… Muffler delete! This thing looks like a Peterbuilt but sounds like a prius! Eventually gonna get a stainless system but for now, just need some sound outta it!

- Rides good, tires are loud. Got a little teeny tiny vibration in the wheel. Hoping the tires will wear in, if not He knows it’s coming back for a check/re-balance…

(and now the really whiny stuff)…

- Not too fond of the fact that I have to remove the center caps on the rims to lock in the hubs… anybody got any options for this?

- Keyless entry – All my other vehicles had this and I need it…. Hard to add?

- Back up camera/blue tooth/mp3’s – I’ll eventually get an aftermarket stereo with all this stuff in it…

…and for some reason my drivers side lock/unlock button will not lock the door. It unlocks but does nothing when I press it to lock it?
