Fuel injection problem
I have a 1988 ford 350 van w/351 winsor. I do not have power to the main fuel pump which used to come on momentarily when you first turn the key on before starting. I have hot wired the fuel pump directly to the batt. just to be able to drive it but once it gets hot it quits and I break down and have to wait about 20 min. before it will restart. I assume that this pump is not supposed to run all the time but instead, just to keep the pressure up. It seems to me that there must be some sort of pressure sensor that is telling the pump to stay off,(thus, no power to the pump) even though there is no pressure. Am I right? Is there a sensor? Are there two, one for each side. If so what do they look like and where are they? If I am wrong about my assumptions, can anybody tell me what I should do? I do not have a book and I am not a mechanic, but I do all work on my van because I can not afford to put it in a shop. Thank you!
